Fitness and healthy Lifestyle

Anyone who has had any life threatening diseases will agree that health is one of the most invaluable assets that money can’t buy. Once you get older, you’ll thank your younger self for investing in your health. Health is not about striving for six-pack abs, it means taking care of your body as well as your mind for your holistic well being. The connection between physical health and mental health is well known and apparent though the old adage: “A healthy mind resides in a healthy body”. The three pillars of a healthy lifestyle are good nutrition, adequate sleep and regular physical activity that gets your heart-rate up. One should have enough knowledge about nutrition. What food you’re taking in and how much food you’re taking in. As a general rule, overly salty and sugary foods are bad for health while greener vegetables are good for health. You need to ensure that you don’t just eat empty calories mindlessly. The more unprocessed your food is, the better. The second pillar is adequate sleep. Getting a good 8 hours of sleep is essential as sleep keeps your body and mind functioning well. Stay away from any screens atleast an hour before going to bed, avoid any strenuous physical activity. Try reading a book to wind down or meditate. Stress and sleep don’t go hand in hand. Along with nutrition, having a physical activity in your day is extremely important. But unlike some people would might think, one doesn’t need to devote a whole lot of time to this. Whether you are a working professional, a student or a housewife, anyone can include physical activity in their day. You just need to take out an hour a day for 5 days a week and do some physical activity of your choice. I personally would recommend lifting weights but you can choose any activity that seems fun to you. It’s important that you progressively overload this physical activity, that is, make it more and more difficult as your body adapts to it. Along with this, meditate! Meditation has been found in numerous studies to have profound benefits for the mind as well as the body. Start with meditating 3 mins every morning and gradually increase the time to 15 minutes a day. It will help declutter your mind and improve your focus. Including all this in your daily routine might seem tough at first but start small and focus on consistency, this will make these habits easier to sustain in the long term. Remember, even the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Take that first step today!
