  • A Brief about yourself and how you describe your own Personality and Persona.
  • Ans.I am like the ocean…endless yet calming; I am like the waves…falling yet rising again; I am like Fire…bright yet devouring; I am like the Moon…beautiful yet spiritual; I am like the winds…strong yet changing; I am like the earth…all-encompassing yet gentle. I am ex Army Officer, having served 8 years in the Indian Army. Post leaving the Army, I joined the corporate and today am Country Head of Security for a reputed MNC. I have lived life on my own terms and have followed my heart. I am married to Chris Powell, a renowned Indian musician and drummer and an ex-member of the famous band called ‘Euphoria’. Now he has his own band called ‘Bandish’. This is my second marriage and my son is from my first marriage. All three of us are very tight together and are very proud of how delicately and tenderly we have rebuild our lives. I have many elements to me and no one word can describe me and no one role can fit me. I am a daughter, a mother, a wife, a friend, a co-worker, a boss, a marathon runner, a fitness freak, a traveler and a writer. I don many hats and I juggle them effortlessly.

  • Your Achievements that makes you feel high.
  • Ans.There are so many things to be thankful for and each day I join my hands in gratitude. But the 4 things on top of my list are : a) Single-handedly bringing up my son and nurturing him to becoming a good and sensitive human being. He and I were a tag team till we welcomed Chris (my present husband) into our lives. b) The proudest moment of my life was when my late father and my mom put the stars on my shoulder. It was indeed a defining moment to don the uniform and get a chance to serve the nation. c) To be the Country Security Head for a reputed MNC. Its been an achievement to reach so high in a male dominated field and prove all the naysayers wrong. d) I was chosen as the Golden Bride for Sabyasachi’s ‘Band Baaja Bride’ show on NDTV and our marriage got featured on that show. I have been able to achieve my dreams because everytime I have been told I cant do it….I have gone ahead and done it…just to prove to myself that no road is unpassable and no mountain unscalable!!

  • Define the true beauty.
  • Ans.True beauty is everywhere. Its in the morning dew, in the smell of fresh leaves, in the innocence of flowers, in the eyes of children, in the clear blue sky, in a moonlit night, in the way lovers hold hands, in a mothers touch, in silence of the forest, in the edge of a cliff, in the vastness of the ocean, in the chirping of birds, in the fragrance of a new born. All we have to do is open the eyes of our soul and look around….beauty is everywhere.

  • What makes a complete, healthy and happy family for you?
  • Ans.For me, a healthy , happy family is one where you can be yourself . It’s a haven where you can talk your woes out and discuss the deepest secret. They are the people who will guide you and support you come hell or high water. Family is like the warmth of a womb, where the noise of the world vanishes, and only love and laughter and selflessness remains.

  • What is your favorite Idea of Holidaying?
  • Ans.A perfect holiday for me would be to just zombie out…no phones, no laptops and no TV. Just me and my family somewhere in the midst of nature creating new memories.

  • Why you are participating in Mrs India Queen of Substance?
  • Ans.I have a few important reasons for participating in MIQS. There are many pageants around in the country, but they are limited to seeing the skin-deep beauty of a woman. MIQS is one such pageant where we are seen for who we truly are….beneath the surface. All of us have had our journeys in life which have metamorphosed us to what we are today…each experience has taught us something…each failure has made us more determined….and each scar has added to our strength and grace. At 42 I can say with pride that my journey has been my own. And this is what MIQS celebrates. The second equally important reason is the social causes with respect to women and children that MIQS partners on and supports. It gives me a platform , a stage, a hearing to talk about things which matter. And thirdly, this was the dream of a 10 year old girl who used to stand infront of the mirror and pose endlessly. 32 years later, I want to fulfill the childhood dream of that 10 year old girl.

  • What bothers you most about what is happening in the country today?
  • Ans.The concept of empathy and sympathy seem to be losing their value. Everytime I turn on the TV or flip through the newspaper I am overwhelmed by the amount of rage and indifference there is around the world. Whether its related to religious radicalism, exploiting the innocent, hurting the helpless or killing the environment. Its scary how self-centered and myopic we have become. It is difficult to imagine that the human race was created to destroy itself, yet it seems to be spiraling down that path.

  • The Quote or saying that encourages you?
  • Ans.“My mission in Life is not merely to survive, but to Thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor and some style” – Maya Angelou

  • What is true “Sportsmanship” for you?
  • Ans.To compete passionately; to win with humility and to lose gracefully.

  • If you were selected as a Charity Ambassador what Value addition would you like to make for our Society and how?
  • Ans.I would definitely like to work actively and more empathetically in cases related to child abuse; physical , sexual and psychological abuse. Children are defenseless. They come into this world by virtue of our actions and our duty to take care of them. Failing to give a safe and secure environment to a child is the biggest failure for any parent. But tragically the statistics of children facing abuse is growing by the day. I would like to get involved in trying to heal such scars. I would want to associate myself with NGOs and organizations which are working in this direction and help in that cause in whatever way I can. Another issue that I would like to speak about is that of our martyrs. It pains me how little awareness people have about the soldiers who lay down their lives for our country and how their families survive after them. The need for sensitizing on this is very high so that the men in uniform get the respect and honour they deserve.
